“Underground,” this system stretches more than 6 miles beneath the city’s streets, starting from a simple connection between two downtown movie theaters to a sprawling network that links 95 city blocks. Originally conceived as a practical solution for navigating the city, the tunnels have evolved into a vibrant space featuring restaurants, retail, and a refuge from unpredictable weather.

The series aims to illustrate how these tunnels offer a unique convenience and an alternative to the unpredictable Texas weather. It also highlights the interplay of light and shadow within these spaces, evoking the dramatic visual style of 1930s German expressionism, reminiscent of films like “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.” This artistic approach focuses on form and shadow with minimal detail, encouraging viewers to engage their imagination.

To encapsulate this exploration, I close with a quote from Emma Watson: “The less you reveal, the more people can wonder.”
